Swish Authorised Installer Scheme
Code of Practice

All Swish Authorised Installers are expected to adhere to the Swish Code of Practice as specified in this document. The strength of our brand has been built on consistent high standards and reliability and in order to maintain our reputation it is essential all Authorised Installers do the same.

Customer Service

Any individual carrying out direct selling as a Swish Authorised Installer must be adequately trained and be able to provide comprehensive information about the product and follow the Code of Practice below.

Direct sellers must:

  1. Identify themselves to prospective customers.
  2. Not use misleading, deceptive or unfair sales practices.
  3. Respect the customer’s right to privacy.
  4. Describe the products and service truthfully and accurately as required under the Trade Descriptions Act 1968.
  5. Answer customers’ questions honestly and clearly.
  6. Give clear and accurate information about price and all aspects of after sales service.
  7. Abide by all guidelines covering the promoting and selling of goods.
  8. Refrain from in any way exploiting the customer, especially anyone who is particularly vulnerable.
  9. Ensure any telephone selling makes use of the Telephone Preference Service.
  10. Provide clarity in explanation of finance packages and make no attempt to conceal true costs.
  11. Allow a 14 day cooling off period following the signing of a sales contract.
  12. Define in writing the limitations of after sales service.
  13. Use a form of contract which clearly defines the nature, scope and cost of the work to be undertaken.
  14. On request, provide a written estimate detailing all works to be carried out and terms and conditions. Any variations will be agreed by both the customer and installer prior to the commencement of any additional works.
  15. Provide adequate cover against all claims for death, personal injury and damage to property arising out of the demonstration of goods or their use after sale as well as appropriate public liability insurance.

Surveying and Installation

Before undertaking each project a Swish Authorised Installer must complete a surveying checklist document. For further information and explanations see BS8213-4:2007 code of practice for the survey and installation of windows and external doorsets.

At Swish we recommend the BS8213-4:2007 code of practice for the survey and installation of windows and external doorsets, which emphasise the good practices which are required for the successful installation of PVC-U windows and door sets. It is not intended to replace any other standards which must also be complied with.

  1. The Authorised Installer will install Swish or Swish authorised products supplied by Swish Authorised Fabricators and/or stockists in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions as published in current editions of technical literature and will incorporate and follow Building Regulations requirements and codes of good working practice.
  2. The Authorised Installer will provide a written guarantee in compliance with Swish recommendations and must offer the customer the option of Guarantee Insurance. The Authorised Installer will at all times maintain adequate insurance for public liability, injury or damage to himself or to any third party or property occurring during the execution of the works and shall produce a copy of the policy to Swish or to the customer upon request.
  3. Under The Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 all work carried out by a trader should be done with reasonable care and skill; in a reasonable time and for a reasonable charge. The parts/goods fitted must be of reasonable quality; fit for their purpose and as described.
  4. The Authorised Installer is responsible for both internal and external protection of the property during installation work. Care should be taken to avoid unnecessary damage to the structure of the house and any furnishings.
  5. It is good practice to install and seal PVC-U products on the same day that existing products are removed in order to maintain security and weather tightness of the property. Old products should be disposed of in a safe manner.
  6. New operatives should be formally trained in the safe use of all tools. The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 must be adhered to at all times.
  7. All glazing must comply with the requirements of the latest BSI regulations and should be examined for any damage in transit prior to installation.
  8. The Authorised Installer must confirm that the product is securely fixed and the security of the product is uncompromised.
