Environment
We know how important it is to minimise waste and conserve resources – that's why
recycling has become an ever-more important part of our manufacturing process.
The PVC-U industry is highly regulated for its environmental standards, and at Swish
we take that responsibility very seriously. That's why, whenever we can, we use
recycled materials for our UPVC windows, doors and conservatories.
It's a common misconception that old PVC-U windows can't be recycled, and that they
go into landfill as a result. Thankfully this isn't the case: modern recycling processes
mean that older PVC-U units are now being turned into the next generation of home
improvement products.
Old PVC-U windows and doors are "deconstructed", cleaned, ground down, and separated
from other materials such as metals, mortar and other plastics. The resultant granules
are turned into brand new extruded material, ready to make new units that are thermally
efficient, highly secure and require little maintenance. Other materials are recycled
as well.
Many households are now replacing their single-glazed or older PVC-U windows and
doors, and enhancing their homes with lightweight and economical units that are
more efficient in terms of insulation and protection, and will help reduce domestic
fuel bills.
What many householders don't realize is that this can be done with a minimal impact
on the environment and no landfill, thanks to the use of modern recycling technology.
At Swish, we want to enhance the environment, not destroy it. That's why we use
100% recycled materials whenever and wherever we can.
